Our Journey: Crafting Comfort, Upholstering Excellence
From humble beginnings to becoming one of the nation's premier suppliers of foam cut to size and upholstery, our story is one of resilience, craftsmanship, and a deep family legacy.
The roots of our journey trace back to the aftermath of World War I, where Francis Harris, wounded on the Somme battlefield, found solace and purpose working at Vickers. There, amidst the clang of metal and the hum of wartime production, he honed his skills crafting seats for tanks and aircraft. In the years between the wars, Francis imparted his upholstery prowess to his two sons, Ron and Len, who became the next generation of craftsmen in the family business.
As World War II erupted, Ron answered the call and bravely served in the navy during the D-Day landings, steering landing craft through the chaos of war. Though he survived, the war altered the course of his life, and he never returned to the family business. Meanwhile, Len, the youngest son, continued the family tradition and learned the art of upholstery from his father. However, fate intervened, and upon Francis's passing in 1946, Len joined the RAF, serving his country for 22 years.
In 1968, upon leaving the RAF, Len Harris picked up where his father left off, returning to the sewing machine and passing on the rich expertise of generations to his only son, Mark Harris. Len's retirement in 2008 marked a pivotal moment as Mark took the helm of the family business, breathing new life into Mark Harris Upholstery Ltd.
From a modest backstreet shop, we have evolved into a cutting-edge factory, specialising in foam cut to size and upholstery. Mark's leadership has propelled the business from strength to strength, blending tradition with innovation to meet the diverse needs of our growing clientele.
