Manufacturing Tolerances
Upon receiving your foam,
We kindly advise unwrapping it promptly and allowing a 24-hour settling period before assessing tolerances. It's crucial to report any size-related issues within 48 hours, as extended periods of wrapping may lead to permanent shrinkage or compression below normal manufacturing tolerances. Should shrinkage occur, it can often be reversed by gently stretching the foam, given its elastic and malleable nature.
Our range includes standard "v," Reflex, CMF, and Reticulated foam (30 & 45 PPI), each subject to a cutting tolerance of +/- 5 mm, with a note of increased consideration for thicknesses under 50mm. For Memory foam, a minimum thickness of 2.5 cm is maintained for all orders, and any orders below this will be cut to meet this standard.
In terms of length and width, a tolerance of 1 cm in every 120 cm is observed. Firmness and density are calculated based on a full uncut block of approximately 200 cu/cm, acknowledging that individual cuts may vary—a norm shared across all suppliers.
Special attention is given to Dacron-wrapped foam, with a maximum usable width of 100 cm. It's essential to note that Dacron is not recommended for use with memory foam, as it compromises the memory properties. However, it can be used if softness is the primary consideration for back cushions.
For Memory Foam, the viscoelastic nature may result in approximate measurements, with potential shrinkage and expansion due to temperature changes. Orders above 180 cm x 200 cm may require joining, with options for lamination in 1", 2", or 3" thicknesses.
Customers seeking a 50/50 split product should be aware of the thickness options available for memory foam and order accordingly. In the case of laminated products, de-lamination around the edges may occur within a 15% tolerance of the total length bonded, meeting EU regulations.
Budget Foam, made from offcuts, may vary in thickness within 2.5 cm. It's crucial to note that this grade may be discolored or joined, and we cannot guarantee its suitability for specific applications.
Foam discoloration due to light penetration is a possibility, and foam may have a distinctive odor, which is normal and will disperse over time with suitable ventilation.
Sheet sizes vary from grade to grade, and in some instances, we may substitute the chosen grade with a higher density or different color, ensuring equal firmness and density.
For further clarification on tolerances, we recommend contacting The Furniture Research Association. Additionally, our Eco and Budget Mattresses, crafted from offcuts, carry a limited 1-year warranty on the foam and cover, assuming normal usage. As each mattress is unique, we encourage customers to try before purchasing, as returns are not accepted based on comfort preferences.
